Chaplain Corp

The Franklin County Sheriff Department's Chaplain Corp was formed in 2005.  The unit was formed with the purpose of serving the needs of the department's personnel and their families.  They are on call for emergencies such as death notices, fatality or serious injury accidents, natural disasters, stand-offs, suicides, critical incident debriefings, and many other cases.  It is a volunteer, self-governing body of local pastors from various religions.  The program is directed by Corporal Brent Scott.

Members of the Corps are selected by the administration of the Sheriff's Department.  They must come highly recommended and be in good standing with a local church or religious organization.  They attend a basic Chaplain Skills Course and are put through an in-house training program that deals with weapons orientation and department operations and procedures.  The Chaplains meet as a group on a regular basis to discuss recent incidents, plan activities, and perform training.

The department Chaplains are offered the chance to attend the Part Time II/Reserve Officer Training Course which is offered by the State of Arkansas.  All Chaplains are also offered the chance to acquire their concealed weapons permit.  This enables the Chaplains to assist the Deputies they are with and to afford them the chance to protect themselves in any life threatening situations they might encounter.

Chaplains are required to ride with the on-duty Deputies on a regular basis.  This helps them to understand the job that law enforcement faces and to be prepared for the type of incidents they might be called on to assist with.  The Sheriff's Department Chaplains are also expected to assist other area emergency departments at their request.  This includes local EMS Units, Fire Departments, First Responders, and other Law Enforcement Agencies.

The public can contact any of the Chaplains by calling the Franklin County Sheriff's Department at (479) 667-4127.

Romans 13:1-4

1 Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. 2 Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves. 3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil. Do you want to be unafraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same. 4 For he is God’s minister to you for good. But if you do evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain; for he is God’s minister, an avenger to execute wrath on him who practices evil.
